January 2014
Greetings from your committee.
The AGM in was held in April 2013. The committee remains unchanged from the previous year. The position of patron is vacant. The membership subscription is to remain at $20 per person for this year.
Following the important issue late in 2012 with respect to our lease, we had a decision by the hearing panel and an independent commissioner to grant our lease in August 2013. A draft lease document was sent to us for consideration and with a few amendments, the final document was issued just after Christmas. However, we now learn that the matter is on hold as the new local board has issued a challenge to the legality of the leases. This means that we have no security of tenure and are unable to continue with our programme of maintenance and improvements at the Historical Village pending the outcome of this issue. You can understand how frustrated and angry we as your committee feel over this seemingly destructive behavior of a few people with their own particular agenda. We will keep the museum open in the meantime and hope for a sensible outcome soon!
Forthcoming events:
After an entertaining Quiz Night held last year we have planned another for March this year. Details will be advertised in the Gulf News. Please come and support the museum in a fun evening.
A garden clean-up is to be held in March when the weather is cooler. Members will be contacted and invited to take part with a sausage sizzle and refreshments afterwards.
A note for your diaries: The AGM has been scheduled for Sunday 30th March at 2pm at the Museum. Further details will be advertised in the Gulf News.
A reminder that membership subscriptions are due in February/March 2014. In the interest of saving our precious funds, no membership cards will be printed this year but receipts will be issued when subscriptions are renewed if requested.
Thank you in advance for your continued support for the Museum and Historic Village. We wish you a safe and happy year.
