President's Report. Jan Vail Welcomed all the members & friends and thanked them for attending the AGM.

She said it had been a good year for the Historical Society. The major project for 2009 was commencing

The refurbishment of the cottages in the Historic Village. This work continued in 2010 with the painting of Champion cottage finished. Preparation work was started on the third cottage but has not progressed quickly as there were no reliable community service workers available. The steps on Goodwin and Champion Cottages have been replaced, the old phone box has been refurbished & is awaiting a coat of red paint and many other maintenance jobs around the place have been carried out. The Museum and Historic Village are in good shape thanks to the hard work of our volunteers.

In December we received a New Zealand Shell Collection from Mr Pat Whitwell who had collected the shells locally and in other parts of the country over many years. The Shells are housed in a very attractive cabinet and are on display in the main Museum. The donation is a very important addition to our natural history collection and we thank Mr Whitwell for his generosity.

Plans for the future include building a tool shed for the Museum to display the collection of domestic tools that are at present in our storage shed.

Also we want to create a display of the local Vineyards and Olive growers. We will approach the vineyard operators to ask for suitable display items. If anyone has anything connected with grape or olive growing, wine making or just drinking the stuff, we would love to have it.

We were short of two committee members for about six months of the year when Arnie left for the Northern summer and Mark had to attend to family matters overseas. Yjeir presence was missed and for some days during the winter months we were unable to open the Museum due to lack of personnel. If anyone could spare an afternoon once a month to be on duty you would be welcome. It is not hard work and you do meet some interesting people.

She thanked the committee, Arnie Aretz, Mark James, Judith Phillips, Christine Hoffman, Anne and Bob anderson for all their efforts and dedication in keeping the Historic Village operating and indeed improving. She also thanked Mary Batten, Priscilla Tobin, Rob McClelland Marlene Hoffman for volunteering their afternoons for roster duty. We could not operate without their help. Thanks was also given to our Patron Kara Nelson for her on going support.

Minutes of last meeting: Proposed by Arnie Aretz & seconded by Christine Hoffman. Carried.

Financial Report Jan Vail presented her report as treasurer of the Society for the year to 31 December 2010 to the members of the Waiheke Island Historical Society.

Financially, the Society is in a sound position although our income from donations and subscriptions was lower than the previous year. Expenditure was also lower and after adjustments for non cash expenses, there was an operating gain of $1,448 for the year.

We held a Live Heritage Day at the Museum on the same day as the Wharf to Wharf Fun Run in January and raised over $560. Waiheke Childcare Group allowed us to have the proceeds from the Anniversary week end Ostend Market in January 2010 boosting our funds by $825. We received a grant of $600 from the New Hope Op shop to replace steps to Goodwin and Champion Cottages. Another $1,000 came from the Department of Corrections as reimbursement for tools purchased for the community service workers and for the petrol costs for volunteers who were on site to oversee the work.

Our General expenses- insurance, power and telephone have increased as expected and this year saw the nominal rent paid to Auckland City Council for the land rise from $1 to $500 plus GST under the new Community Lease Policy. This policy will have an impact on all non profit organisations on the Island.

As a voluntary Organisation, the Society is dependent on your membership fees and donations from the public to operate the Museum. Your committee thanks you for your ongoing support.
