WAIHEKE CHORAL SOCIETY NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2004
Hi everyone.
Well hopefully the big wet is over and we didn’t need that old fellas wooden boat that had all the animals crammed in it. We had a great Yule Foolery Social at Onetangi Hall, a bit cold, but the fellowship was warm and the heaters did the rest. Philip was in great form as the King of Misrule and he kept the entertainment flowing along. I loved Bernards rendition of two crusty old men argueing over the cost per foot of the wood for the Ark. It was wonderful being able to entertain ourselves without TV or any other media. We had a right royal singsong with Marion at the piano, there was plenty of food and we still have two cases of wine left over. We will dispose of them at our Christmas break up. Thank you to Marie Watson and Peter Armstrong for their help in decorating the hall. It took a few hours to put them all up and all of ten minutes to take them down, but it certainly looked great.Quite a few members enjoyed Last night at the Proms [Waiheke style] at Morra Hall. The Youth Orchestra are so talented, it was a wonderful night.Twelfth Night has just finished at the upgraded Artworks and some of our members wreaked mayhem on Shakespeare to their great delight.Rehearsals are going well and the big day of the concert is drawing nearer. We will miss the great songs we’ve been singing when it is over. The members are singing as soon as Marion starts playing the piano and we are still putting all the chairs out.Mark has attended two seminars on the accessing of community grants and we have an application form in for next years show, the WW2 revue. We have started to put the structure in place and Wendy Croucher has agreed to head the show committee. The music must be from ’39 to’45 and there is plenty of it around. Put on your thinking caps and bring your ideas to Wendy.
The choir is going hi-tech, Mark has agreed to design a web page for us.He has also done an up to date phone list of members which is attached to your newsletter. Keep it safe, you never know when you will need it.
We will be working on our Christmas programme after the show with a combined Christmas concert at St. Peters, under the auspices of the City Council. We are also hoping to visit Seaside Sanctuary,as long as we don’t visit around Coronation St. time.
Congratulations to Richard who was elected President of the Historical Society for another year.
Jill Tetley is looking for help in decorating Morra Hall for the concert so if you can help noher she will be very grateful
Choir is starting at the earlier time of 7pm until the concert.
Committee News A programme is now in place for next year starting off with the WW2 revue in May. This is not a celebration of war, it is a celebration of the ending of the war and there is some wonderful music which kept every ones spirits up during that dark period of time.Richard is deciding on a more serious work for September but we have to liaise with Sing Waiheke to see what their programme will be so we don’t clash, then in to December we are into a Christmas programme. We have also been discussing negotiating the need for a long term lease for practise purposes in the future. We have just about used every hall on Waiheke and we need to have a home.
Our love and condolences go to Mike Karatai and his family, who recently lost his father in Australia, It is hard when loved ones pass away and they are many miles away.
Overseas. Alan and Eileen Boghurst are away in England and Barbara Cuff will shortly be in Australia. Christine Hoffman is back from her trip and Ron and Sylvia and Andy and Meya Spence are back from Rarotonga and the warmer climes.
I didn’t manage to ferret out any august birthdays except for a past member Ken Brown. Ken and Jenny still receive the newsletter, so hope you had a good one Ken.
Special Dates. Don’t forget there is a Sunday rehearsal on Sept 5th at 2pm at Palm Beach Hall and that we are meeting at the earlier time of 7pm on Tuesdays until the concert

Well I’m afraid that’s your lot for this time around, having had to type this twice. I made the fatal mistake of not saving it and the original is now swanning around somewhere in the ether. Lesson Learned.
