Minutes of WCS Committee meeting held 3pm at Anne Willmann’s home.
Present: Sylvia, Anne, Mark, Joan, Sandra, Gavin
Minutes of last meeting: held 11th June 2024 taken as read and correct record.
Matters arising from last minutes:
1. Mark to arrange for both Sylvia and Gavin to become signatories of WCS’s bank account.
General Business:
1. Christmas Concert Date: Can’t hold concert on 1st Dec as previously planned as Smart family will be away, so no pianist. Decided to go with 8th Dec instead, Sylvia has confirmed St Peters church is available. Could do with more bases as some can’t make 8th.
2. End of Year Party: Need to consult choir what they would like – Sylvia to send out email to gain members preference – options include meal at Ajadz, Bowling Club, RSA.
3. Access to Whittakers while Willmann’s are away – Gerdar, Mark/Gavin know the key lock code.
4. Mid-practice breaks: Joan volunteered to be supper convenor – bring milk each week and top up biscuits as required using monies from the tea tin.
5. Remaining Events this Year: Sylvia to send out email listing remaining events including:
a. Brain-testing 8/10/2024 during practice.
b. Gilbert & Sullivan talk: 27/10/2024, choir to sing few songs, suggested:
i. 3 Little Maids (sung by 3 elderly ladies)
ii. Little List, sung by Andy
iii. Captain of Pinafore (Mark as Captain)
iv. A Policeman’s Lot
v. 5th piece for whole choir
c. Joan’s birthday party Saturday 23/11/24, 6:30pm at RSA – need to find out roughly how many will be staying for meal for catering purposes. Favourite songs she would like choir to sing are:
i. Orpheus on Te Ara Hura,
ii. Hallelujah Chorus, and
iii. Speed Your Journey.
6. Suggestions by Mark Yandall: Discussed. Sylvia will be better prepared for presentations next time. Re advertising, thought was what else could we have done? – will accept Mark’s offer of help in advertising next time. Re WCS website, Sandra to send Mark copy of photo and video of last Christmas show.
7. Result of poll re choir members music preferences: mixed results, Sacred and Superstar medley clear favourites, some songs like ‘Distant Star’ were both liked and disliked.
8. Carolyn & Gavin away 3rd September, Mark can lead “Waiheke My Home” without pianist at practice that night.
9. WCS Member List: Mark gave Sylvia list of paid-up members. Dee would have full list. Dee to be asked to send full list to committee members. Members to be canvassed as to if anybody objects to their details being shared with whole choir.
Finances
Mark tabled the income ($1,007) and expenses ($570) for the 2024 mid-year Potpourri concert (net profit $437).
