Minutes of Waiheke Choral Society Committee meeting 7pm Tuesday 5th December 2023, held at Anne Willmann’s home.
Present: Maya, Andy, Joan, Sandra, Anne, Gavin
Apologies: Mark
Minutes of last meeting held Tuesday 29th October 2023 taken as read and true record.
Christmas Concert:
· Went well, big turnout (standing room only), new format alternating between choir and audience singalong worked well and appreciated by all.
· Maya thanked Anne for the concert going so well, for her expertise and ideas.
· Takings thought to be approx $1,200.
· Be good to get publicity when handing over proceeds to WH Budgeting Service. Mark to arrange, giving publicity to both WCS and WBS.
· Maya has contacted Christine @ St Peters re faulty keys on the electric piano. She put in plug that WCS has a good piano that we would be happy to shift to St Peters for use there.
Financial Report: None as Mark absent.
General Business:
· Richard’s Music: Sorted, still no one interested in it, even after trying TradeMe and various organisations. Maya has handed 2 historic scores to Anne Joslyn for museum.
Next Year:
· MD: Andy asked Anne if she is happy to carry on as MD, she is. She is thankful for Mark and Sandra being able to step up when she is unavailable for practices.
· Concerts: Agreed to aim for 2 concerts, mid-year and Christmas, and to hold both at St Peters due to the excellent acoustics. Discussed using rises for back row of singers would be good.
· 2024 Practice start date: Anne returns 17th Feb, so Tues 20th Feb will be 1st practice.
· Music: Need to tell choir not to throw previous music away. Anne has list of definite keepers for reuse in 2024, which members should bring to 1st practice. Other suggestions were made which Anne will look at, including:
1. Humming Chorus
2. Victory March
3. Gilbert & Sullivan (including sacred songs written by Sullivan)
4. Folk songs from various nations (Andy will check folk song book he has).
5. National anthems
6. Songs from various shows, eg,
a. Jesus Christ Super Star (eg, Try not to get worried).
b. Joseph & his technicolor coat.
c. Phantom of the Opera
d. Les Miserables
e. Andrew Lloyd Webber
7. Funny and difficult – Anne has arrangement of Waltzing Matilda – Maya suggested a small group of choir members could do to give variety and give choir a rest during concert.
Anne will evaluate/choose suitable songs and see Mark re downloading/printing scores. See website Musecore.com
Meeting closed at 7:50pm, followed by tea/coffee.
